Apostolic vs non-Apostolic

Apostolic \Ap`os*tol"ic\, Apostolical \Ap`os*tol"ic*al\, a. [L. apostolicus, Gr. ?: cf. F. apostolique.]
1. Pertaining to an apostle, or to the apostles, their times, or their peculiar spirit; as, an apostolical mission; the apostolic age. [1913 Webster]

2. According to the doctrines of the apostles; delivered or taught by the apostles; as, apostolic faith or practice. [1913 Webster]

Acts 2:42 talks of pursuing a course of action and staying true to the apostle's DOCTRINE.  This doctrine was taught to the apostle's by Jesus Christ himself and opened to them through spiritual revelation.  Hence, it is safe to say that the apostle's doctrine (the basis of teaching, the very teaching itself) is the best method to discovering God's will and purpose in your life, along with the means to enter into glory - which is, or should be, every Christian's goal.  For there we will see Him as he is and be allowed to serve at his throne!

However, at present there is a movement afoot in monotheistic Jesus name circles to forsake the term Apostolic.  Some tell me that they are NOT apostolic, merely believers or saved.  I submit that if you follow the methodology and purpose of the apostles, you are by default APOSTOLIC.  Regardless of what you call yourself, the form and fashion of salvation; the true Biblical plan found rooted in the understanding of Deuteronomy 6:4 and activated in Acts 2:38, is the key.  To become wrapped up in an argument of titles is as foolish as being baptized in the titles once you have been spiritually awakened to the significance of Jesus - the name of the living God.

Jesus did not intend that we as the church of the living God become embroiled in such foolish contentions.  In fact, "strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers" (II Timothy 2:14) is a very good way to look at this situation.  The Word (Bible) is made up of words and rightly dividing words is the key to understanding doctrine.  Getting hooked on titles and arguing over word usage is not going to help anyone come to salvation which is the key to our service in God - SAVING SOULS.

Let's go forward in the unity of the FAITH (Eph. 4:3-13) and trust God to work out what you are, regardless of what you wish to call yourself.  Being saved is enough for now.  For me, I am apostolic as I follow the apostle's doctrine.

Be Blessed -
