And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me. And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so. 2 KINGS 2:9-10
Friends,
We are talking to you about DESIRE. Elisha desired a double portion from Elijah and he received it at the end of their journey. But the challenge was laid down by Elijah that the portion would only come if Elisha made it to the point of departure! Many of us are walking around with desires. Some have a desire for God but do we truly have a GODLY DESIRE? The difference is found in what we do when our challenges arise and our faith is put to the test. How we respond to temptation and hardship is rooted in our desire. Those who simply desire God will falter when God seems to ignore their pleas, or not respond the way they expect. However, those with a GODLY DESIRE will keep true, knowing that the daily walk is nothing compared to what awaits them at the end of the journey. A Godly desire will keep you pressing when you are faced with scoffers as Elisha was, the times you are urged to sit still and quit, the times it seems easier to hold your ground and go no further. A Godly desire will drive you to cling to the Man of God and the Word of God when all others fail. A Godly Desire will press you forward to see the moment that God's whirlwind arrives and pulls you into Glory!
DON'T QUIT NOW! You are on a path to receive a double portion of glory right now! You have told God you would stay with him, you would walk where he leads, you would talk the way he says, and it will do you no good if you don't make it to the end. Elisha was true to his word - he stayed close to Elijah and got what he wanted! Will you? Do you have Godly desires or just a desire for God? A desire for God will lead you to salvation - But Godly desires will KEEP YOU SAVED!
IN LOVE,
