The Work of the Gospel

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
ROMANS 12:1-2

Friends, this week we are studying the work of the gospel. So many of us are getting wrapped up in programming, singing, door knocking, outreaching, testifying, and all the other WORKS IN the gospel, yet many are neglecting the true WORK OF the gosel. In the scripture above there is a key word that makes everything fall into place. It is the word that moved Christ to earth to die for our sins, and the word that means everything to the Christian today. Without this word the entire doctrine of the apostles is useless. That word is TRANSFORMED.

All the works you do merely demonstrate your faith as James so clearly outlined, but the WORK that is needed is a complete transformation of the individual in question. You cannot door knock your way into heaven and all your singing, all your prayers and all your praise will not move the gates aside. Unless you CHANGE and change completely within and without, you will never see him as he is. 1 John 3:1-3 tells us of a day when we will see him as he is because WE WILL BE LIKE HIM. Yet that requires a transformation, and unless that process in ongoing and complete, all your efforts are in vain. We urge you to consider the work of the gospel. The reason Jesus died on the cross was to TRANSFORM YOU from sinner to saint. To change your spirit, thoughts and actions into a living sacrifice found to be acceptable unto God.

This week SLOW DOWN and look at yourself. Are you working works or working transformation? Have you given up the weight (that person, thing, or circumstance) that holds you down, and that sin that so easily waylays you? Have you stopped doing or being that which you have been that you know God does not like? What is your motive? If you are truly doing the work of the gospel you are transforming your very soul into the image of God on this earth and will become that which will open the pearly gates when the time comes. If not, all the works you have done are in vain.

IN Love,

Elder Mark and Sister Dana
