PSALMS 150 (et al): PRAISE ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him with the high-sounding cymbals. Let everything that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.
When I first read that I wondered why the bible used the word everyTHING that hath breath...I knew the bible was very specific about it's wording and meanings, and I found that very curious. If you look at a breakdown of this scripture you will too...but we will take it apart and I think you will see something new here.
Verses 1 and 2 call for us to praise him. In church, in the earth, whereever we find ourselves we are to praise him. Why? For his marveouls acts; what he does. For WHO he is, for WHAT he is...his excellent greatness.
Verses 3 thru 5 list nine (9) separate items/objects/things that are used to praise him.
Verse 6 ends with everyTHING having breath praising him, and reiterates that YOU are to praise him. Note that it clearly says THINGS first and YOU separately. Interesting yes?
Let's look at a word study and I think you will see why. I have chosen to overlook the word THING (which means an inanimate object, article, or abstract idea which cannot be identified or categorized), and jump to BREATH. This is the key to understanding what God was aiming at.
Breath in this instance comes from the word Neshamah (from the Prim. root Nasham - to pant), and it is the same breath used in Genesis 2:7 and 7:22, as the breath of God which gave Adam life!)
a) breath of God b) breath of man c) every breathing THING d) spirit of man
synonyms (those words which can be used in place of breath) are: Spirit, animation, vigor, force.
When God made Adam he formed him out of the clay. He wrapped clay into a form which in its raw form was a thing; an inanimate object. He breathed into Adam's nostrils and Adam became a living soul. He was given life by the Spirit of God. Everything listed in Verses 3 thru 5 above are inanimate objects/things. They have no life of their own. They are useless by themselves. BUT, when we give them animation, vigor, or force, when we attach our anointing and talent to them, they come ALIVE!
It is not their anointing that brings the coordinated sounds, it is OURS! In our article "THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN US AND THEM" we discussed your anointing and how it affects others. How it brings LIFE into the situation you find yourself in. The same thing is true here! These items listed above have breath (spirit, animation, vigor, force) by virtue of YOUR input. YOU make them breathe, you give them LIFE and THEY CAN PRAISE GOD WITH AND BECAUSE OF YOU!
God created man and man's intelligence and talent created the instruments, and the instruments are used to praise God by man! It is a beautiful and FULL circle. Give God praise and let everyTHING that has breath(spirit, animation, vigor, and force) praise God too! Now we can see why he starts the chaper with us and ends it with us! Because without us, nothing would have breath, and without him we would not have breath, and our breath returns unto him in the form of praise!
Just a thought....
In Love,
Elder Mark
